Cyber and Information Security Research & Development

On Tuesday 11 June 2024 , another meeting was held Platform on Cyber and Information Security Research and Development, this time on the premises of the cooperating CTU.

During the meeting we discussed, for example, the activities of the National Communication Centre, the Digital Europe programme, and the security of satellite communications,

The panel discussion was also interesting, where among the panelists sat, for example, representatives of the Czech Army - by the way, did you know that if you want to become a supplier of the Czech Army, one of the conditions is that the products supplied can be painted green? Or CyberSecurityHubcz, a group founded in 2020 by Masaryk University, Czech Technical University in Prague and Brno University of Technology.

There was also discussion about opportunities for commercial entities to get involved, the potential of technology start-ups was addressed, experiences of successes and failures in responding to challenges were shared, and in general the event was a kind of central point from which a whole range of activities and activities unfolded - so the platform is more than aptly named.

We would like to thank NUCIB for inviting representatives of our company to the Meeting and for the opportunity to get a better understanding of the opportunities and generally to be "in the know".

What is the NCIB and what is its role?

The National Office for Cyber and Information Security (NIChttps://nukib.gov.cz/cs/IB) is the central administrative authority for cyber security, including the protection of classified information in the field of information and communication systems and cryptographic protection. It is also responsible for public regulated services in the Galileo satellite system. It was established on 1 August 2017 on the basis of Act No. 205/2017 Coll., amending Act No. 181/2014 Coll., on Cyber Security and amending related acts (Cyber Security Act).

The Director of the Office also regularly participates in meetings of the National Security Council (NSC) and is a member of the Committee on Cyber Security, which is a permanent working body of the NSC for coordinating the planning of measures to ensure the cyber security of the Czech Republic.

NUCIB and cybersecurity research

The NCSIC is the main national focal point for research and development in the field of cyber security and the protection of classified information. The Office also contributes to the development of information and analytical background for the security community and contributes to the coordination of research activities, including the identification of research needs, problems and priorities in cyber and information security.

The NUCIB cooperates with the academic and private sectors on national and international research projects and on the development and implementation of security technologies used by the state.

Most of the research, development and innovation projects announced by the Office are dealt with by contractors in the form of public contracts. NUCIB also supports research projects as an application and expert guarantor or through a Letter of Intent.

In the area of international cooperation, the NCIB supports the establishment of international consortia and, taking into account the internal capacities of the Office, it will engage in international projects whose results have the potential to contribute to the development of the protection of Czech cyberspace.
