The panorama of Prague's Žižkov is changing
Exactly at the turn of the summer holidays, the Central Telecommunications Building, nicknamed "Mordor" by the people of Prague, also known as the Strougal Tower, finally disappeared from Žižkov.
Whether you are a fan of this type of architecture or not, the ÚTB has become an iconic building linked to the skyline of Žižkov and Vinohrady and visible from many places. A very advanced technical building in Brutalist style for its time, it eventually gave way to a future project designed by the famous architect Eva Jiřičná.
At the end of June, excavators uncovered the last pieces of the telecommunications tower and now demolition work on the adjacent buildings is gradually beginning.
